Our wellbeing walks are based on the Scottish Mental Health Ranger program. In the Scottish program a depressed person presenting to a GP was offered either antidepressants or a referral to a park ranger. For mild to moderate depression the Mental Health Ranger program was found to be more effective than antidepressants.

We looked at the Scottish program and created value adding improvements. Our program added art and meditation aspects. We also added a picnic option and yoga (when our yoga practitioner is avaliable). It is designed to be a social day where participants learn, laugh, socialise and generally get some some gentle exercise in fresh air.

This project is run in partnership with Melbourne Parks who train up our staff for the park ranger aspects of Royal Park.
